On May 26, 2025, the International Burch University hosted Walt Vernon, CEO of Mazzetti and a global leader in sustainable healthcare infrastructure, for an inspiring lecture on the future of emission-free healthcare. The event was organized in collaboration with DMBIUBIH.

Vernon emphasized that achieving net-zero healthcare by 2050 requires much more than solar panels or symbolic green initiatives. Instead, the transformation must be rooted in data-driven engineering and evidence-based practice. Key steps include:

  • projecting and measuring the energy use of every new medical device,

  • establishing strict energy performance standards for hospital buildings, and

  • implementing real-time energy metering to enable predictive maintenance and ensure continuous energy savings.

By combining engineering innovation with climate goals, the healthcare sector can significantly reduce its carbon footprint while maintaining high standards of patient care.

DMBIUBIH extends its gratitude to Walt Vernon and all participants who contributed to shaping a vision of healthcare that is not only technologically advanced but also environmentally responsible.
