At this year’s NetWork BiH Conference, which brings together over 1,100 leading experts and innovators from around the world under the slogan “The Power of Connection,” Dr. Gurbeta Pokvić shared her insights on the digital transformation of healthcare in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In her talk titled “eHealth in Bosnia and Herzegovina – A Bridge Between Innovation and Patient Care,” Dr. Gurbeta Pokvić highlighted the importance of digitalization and artificial intelligence as key drivers of change in healthcare.
As a leading organization in the fields of medical and biological engineering in Bosnia and Herzegovina, DMBIUBIH recognizes the importance of these technologies in transforming healthcare services, paving the way for personalized medicine.
Dr. Gurbeta Pokvić emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina has all the necessary components for an accelerated digitalization of its healthcare system, which would significantly improve patient care. Key steps include raising awareness among healthcare professionals about the benefits of digital solutions and establishing regulatory frameworks to support their implementation, thus avoiding the duplication of digital and paper-based records. Additionally, democratizing health data and enabling research groups to access anonymized data, in line with EU trends, was also emphasized as a priority.
Digital health transformation is a priority within the European Union, which actively promotes programs such as Digital Europe, Horizon Europe, and EU4Health. These programs provide substantial financial support for the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare, offering added motivation for the academic and industrial communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to actively participate in the EU research space.
