The most innovative event of the year - Sarajevo Roadshow - has been successfully completed!
On Thursday, 3rd October 2024, the International Popular Science Conference "Common Horizons: Climate Change, Technology and People" was held at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel. The event gathered 40 visitors, who participated in an active discussion about climate change from different perspectives, and the messages about the use of climate services in order to better respond to climate change, avoid the consequences of climate change and positive changes in the current situation are especially significant. The symposium was addressed by representatives of the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute of FBiH, director Almir Bijedić and climatologist Dženan Zulum, assistant. Dr. Elnur Tahirović, specialist in internal medicine of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, Jelena Kalinić from the UG Society for the Promotion of Natural Sciences "Science and the World", Emina Nizić from the Tourist Board of Sarajevo Canton, asst. prof. Dr. Dejan Durić from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Rijeka, Madžida Hundur Hiyari in front of the AgroSmart EU4Agri project of the Verlab Institute, and Dragan Mihić from the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute of Serbia. Through presentations and discussions with panelists, the participants gathered knowledge from the fields of natural, technical and social sciences, as well as art and artificial intelligence.
In addition, the audience was addressed by v. prof. dr. Seid Masnica, adviser to the minister, prof. Dr. Jasna Duraković, in front of the Federal Ministry of Education and Science (FMON), as well as Dr. Adna Ašić (Verlab Institute and DMBIUBIH) and Mirjana Volarev (Center for Science Promotion) in front of the organizers.
The focus of the Sarajevo Roadshow program was the interactive and provocative scientific and artistic installation Climate Capsule, which was available to citizens and visitors in front of the Sarajevo City Center during the three days of the event, from 3rd to 5th October. Through this installation, visitors gained new and renewed old knowledge about the scope and dangers of climate change, the expected consequences in the near future if our current approach to this problem does not change, as well as the importance and ways of using climate services. The installation, according to the visitors who used it, is an immersive experience for all the senses and left a strong impression on them.
The innovative nature of the Conference is reflected in the fact that citizens and tourists were the focus of the program, and had the opportunity to expand their perspectives on the impact of climate change and the importance and positive effects of the correct use of climate services. This is also visible in the huge interest in the Climate Capsule, which was visited by over 200 people over three days, and we are especially pleased by the interest of young people in the, unfortunately, never more topical problem of climate change.
The complete event is part of the Horizon Europe project Climateeurope2 and represents the exclusive promotion of the project in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The organizational team represents the cooperation of the Verlab Institute, the Center for the Promotion of Science Belgrade and the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute with the Society for Medical and Biological Engineering, with the support of the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund.
