The Society for Medical and Biological Engineering in Bosnia and Herzegovina (DMBIUBIH) organized a bioinformatics workshop on May 7, in cooperation with the International Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IANUBIH) and the Scientific Research Institute Verlab for Biomedical Engineering, Medical Devices and Artificial Intelligence. The workshop was led by dr. Adna Ašić, who is also the president of the Assembly of our Society, a scientific associate of the Verlab Institute and an associate professor of Genetics and Bioinformatics at the International Burč University. dr. During the half-day workshop, Ašić shared with the participants the reasons for the rapid development of bioinformatics in recent decades, and introduced them to theory and practice regarding two basic skills in computer processing of biological data: access to biological data and alignment of biological sequences and interpretation of results. The workshop was a combination of lectures, demonstrations and practical tasks that the participants solved themselves, and then discussed them and thus improved their understanding of these areas.

Over 70 participants took part in the workshop, of which ten participants attended the workshop live in the premises of the Verlab Institute, while the other participants attended online in this hybrid event. The participants expressed their satisfaction with the acquired skills and expressed their desire to participate in similar events in the future. dr. Ašić also shared her impressions after the workshop and confirmed that she was positively surprised by the willingness of the participants to progress and acquire new knowledge.
