On February 11, Homework Hub will host a special event marking the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, proudly supported by DMBIUBIH. This global celebration recognizes the vital contributions of women to science, technology, and education, while also inspiring the next generation of girls to pursue careers in STEM and academia.
Among the distinguished speakers, a special highlight is Lejla Gurbeta Pokvić, Executive Director of DMBIUBIH and Assistant Professor at International Burch University. With extensive international experience in biomedical engineering, her research spans medical devices, artificial intelligence, and clinical engineering. Beyond her scientific achievements, Lejla is deeply committed to education, mentorship, and creating opportunities for young scientists, embodying the mission and values of DMBIUBIH.
The event will also feature accomplished scientists and academics from diverse disciplines, showcasing the breadth of women’s contributions to research and innovation. Their stories will not only highlight individual excellence but also demonstrate how collaboration, resilience, and inclusivity drive progress in science and society.
By supporting this initiative, DMBIUBIH reaffirms its dedication to promoting gender equality in science and empowering women leaders who are shaping the future of knowledge and technology.

The first day of #Techathon at Homework HUB unfolded in an inspiring and dynamic atmosphere. More than 60 high school students from Sarajevo joined forces to develop innovative solutions addressing three key UN Sustainable Development Goals – health, education, and gender equality.
Once again, Homework HUB took part in the global #TeensInAI campaign, organized to mark International Women’s Day, with the aim of empowering youth and encouraging their engagement in solving societal challenges through technology and teamwork.
Throughout the day, participants were guided by mentors Alema and Nejra, representing Blum Institute, Bloomteq, and the Verlab Institute, who generously shared their knowledge and expertise. Their support was crucial in helping the teams identify problems and shape potential sustainable solutions.
The event was further strengthened by the support of DMBIUBIH, highlighting the importance of involving the academic and professional community in initiatives that foster creativity and innovation among younger generations.
The day was filled with discussions, idea exchanges, and collaborative work, proving once again that the potential for innovation lies in the hands of youth. With many projects still in development, anticipation is high for the second day of the competition, when teams will present their solutions and showcase how young people can contribute to “hacking” the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Ideathon 2024 brought together students, young professionals, and high school participants under the age of 30 to design forward-looking solutions for Sarajevo – the city recently named “Best in the World 2025” by National Geographic readers.
Over several days, 24 teams had the chance to transform their ideas into practical solutions with the support of experienced mentors. The program focused on rethinking urban mobility, redesigning public spaces, and exploring new ways technology can improve health.
The final stage, held on December 18, 2024, at Europe House Sarajevo, showcased the work of 11 finalist teams carefully selected by a panel of distinguished experts. Presentations reflected not only technical knowledge but also creativity, teamwork, and the ability to respond to contemporary challenges in innovative ways.
In addition to valuable networking opportunities and knowledge exchange, the hackathon rewarded the top three teams with financial prizes, alongside special awards designed to support further project development.
Beyond the competition itself, Ideathon 2024 proved to be an inspiring platform where young innovators could learn, collaborate, and connect with established professionals from Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond. The event highlighted the importance of empowering youth creativity and demonstrated how fresh ideas can contribute to building a smarter and healthier future for Sarajevo.
Organized by DMBIUBIH, KulturaMedia Sarajevo, the International Academy of Sciences and Arts in Bosnia and Herzegovina (IANUBIH), and the Verlab Institute, the initiative received strong support from institutions, industry partners, and the academic community, ensuring its role as a meaningful step toward innovation-driven development.
